This video is a great example of how children should be read to. It is important to continuously discuss concepts that one might think is over the head of a young one such as the author and illustrator of the book. These concepts will soon become clear if repeated before each book. Also, it is vital for the reader to discuss letters, numbers, and prediction questions. This will get the child engaged and thinking. The more that we read to children, the greater chance there will be for them to develop a love for reading. A love for reading will then influence the successfulness of their further education.
I totally agree. It will also build the child's love for reading. This passion needs to be developed early so that it becomes part of who the child is. I get so annoyed with schools when I listen to students as they complain about the "required readings" that they must do for class. These books are often not interesting to the child or teen. I wonder if the concepts being taught through these current selections can be taught using more interesting selections so that teens do not learn to Hate reading.
